Today, the Carr team shares a selection of projects that are due for completion this year.

Sorrento Sailing Couta Boat Club.

Sorrento Sailing Couta Boat Club, Sorrento

Celebrating all that has come before, the refined and streamlined Sorrento Sailing Couta Boat Club helps take the Club into the next generation. We worked closely with the Club’s committee to understand the brief, which was to bring the building’s hospitality offerings and back-of-house facilities into the next generation.

Associate Richard Healy says of the design process, “From the beginning, we looked to find a healthy tension between the traditional and the new aspects of the Club. Retaining and celebrating the Club’s history and Couta Boat craftsmanship, complemented with efficient and contemporary design elements.”

Due for completion in January 2024.

Salta Head Office, Melbourne

Demonstrating an admiration for craftsmanship and a sense of locality, the head office for Salta Properties supports new ways of working that seek to enrich the lives of staff and visitors. Having collaborated with Salta on its previous Melbourne workplace, Carr was once again engaged to reflect and support the business’s growth in a sophisticated and intuitive workplace.

Founding Principal Sue Carr says of the project’s outcome, “The vision for Salta’s head office was to achieve a versatile and dynamic environment that fosters connection and inspires its occupants. By incorporating sustainable design principles and the latest technology we created a flexible workplace that is both inviting and engaging, while also being future ready.”

116 Rokeby, Collingwood

Set within an ever-changing pocket of Collingwood, this new commercial takes cues from the fragmented industrial materiality of its locale with a rigorous approach to sustainability. The form is simple and minimalist, expressing a strong architectural repetition on the façade while bringing a holistic, inside-out approach.

Associate Director Stephen McGarry says of the project’s leading green measures, “From conception, we have been working towards designing a gas-neutral building in response to what we see as a climate and biodiversity emergency within the industry.”

Due for completion in February 2024.

Brunswick Yard, Brunswick

Set in the dynamic and multi-faceted suburb of Brunswick, our project draws reference to the suburb’s storied past while creating a modern building suitable for contemporary living.  As Carr worked on both architecture and interiors, there is a strong continuation from the outside through to the inside, with the interiors expressing the same clean lines and simple forms that define the exterior.

Of the building’s rich urban context, Associate Director Richard Beel explains, “The use of a singular material was critical on this project. It was chosen not just because of its relevance to Brunswick, but also for the atmospheric quality it expresses. “

Due for completion in February 2024.

The International, Brighton

The International in Brighton is a development setting a new standard in luxury residential living. Through a distinct connection to the outdoors, coupled with refined design, The International brings a crafted approach that speaks to its extraordinary Bayside locale.

“The spatial planning for The International is generous, more akin to a luxury hotel, but considered detailing of what makes a home have also been captured,” says Associate Director Richard Beel.

Due for completion in March 2024.

The Brookville, Toorak

Designed as a robust form with a gallery-like, triple volume arrival, each apartment in The Brookville is designed with a unique aspect over the three levels to the surrounding Toorak streets.

“Our design philosophy prioritises interior spaces that open out to external views. This has been consistently applied throughout the project’s planning strategies, with the axes aligned across each of the unit types to each of the 10 apartments,” shares Managing Director Chris McCue.

Due for completion in April 2024.

10 River, South Yarra

Offering over 7,000 square metres of net lettable area over nine levels, 10 River is an exclusive office building founded on flexibility, convenience and elevated luxury.  The site for 10 River is dissected by a diagonal easement, splitting the building’s first two levels in half.

Associate Chris Eggleston says the dual discipline approach on 10 River reaps rewards, “The design for 10 River sees the unification of architecture and interior design principles to offer a high-end workplace for like-minded businesses and organisations. The design experience sets itself apart through its commitment to convenience, luxurious materials and hotel design principles.”

Due for completion in July 2024.

Como Terraces, South Yarra

Responding to its once-in-a-generation location overlooking the Yarra River, Como Terraces is a complex and unique project of eight buildings nestled and place to create pathways along the topography. The monolithic buildings appear as individual homes but in fact, collectively accommodate a combination of 39 two to four-bedroom residences.

“The landscape was to be the dominant, and sit back from the street, and be immersed within the landscape. The response was developed to respect the river frontage, the nearby Como Park and the engagement with the street,” says Associate Director David Brooks of the site’s built and natural environment.

Due for completion in September 2024.
