Tools down

Seems hard to believe, but it’s that time of year again to put the tools down! Let’s find out what some of the Carr team have planned for the Christmas break.

My partner and I have just recently gotten a puppy, River, so our plans mainly revolve around her. We’re looking to lay low, and potentially find a few good dog parks or dog-friendly hiking spots.

As a New Zealand expat, I’ll be spending much of the holidays showing my mum around the best of Melbourne and Victoria. We’ll spend time at Phillip Island and Lakes Entrance and enjoy family Christmas with my new fiancé! Luckily, Mum is also an art lover, so Yayoi Kusama at the NGV seems a must. I’m excited for the sun, surf, great food and time with family and friends.

Christian Grossi, Associate

This break, we’re joining a convoy of five caravans (ours being the fifth) for a road trip travelling to Eden for New Year’s. The five caravans will contain nine adults and seven kids. The kids will be the ones dictating day activities, where my son Frank will push for golf, and my daughter Emilia will request beach time. The kids in the group will be rewarded with 30 minutes of local play on their Nintendo Switches every night, which gives us adults 30 minutes of peace and quiet.

Nick Carr, CEO

I will be holidaying with my young family. We will be on the Surf Coast building architecture structures (the bigger, the better) in the sand, exercising in the nearby bushland and relaxing at the end of the day in preparation for the next! It will be time to focus on yourself and each other – I can’t wait!

I’m looking forward to a trip overseas to visit family and do some sightseeing. First stop Hawaii, then New York and lastly Nicaragua! I’m particularly looking forward to getting my fix of Broadway shows, some jungle adventures and relaxing on Hawaiian beaches.

Charlotte Huston, Communications and Media Coordinator

I will be spending Christmas in Melbourne this year, eating good food with great company. Then heading off to Bali with some girlfriends for (planned) rest and recovery, before a short plane trip to my hometown of Perth for the beautiful blue beaches. It’s shaping up to be a busy one, but I will hopefully get some downtime in there!

I’ll be laying low this summer, dedicating quality time with my loved ones. I’m hoping to find some quiet away from the city—either down the coast or up in the ranges. Still undecided, but either way, I’ll be taking time for mindful rest.

Maree Paraskevopoulos, Senior Interior Designer

My holidays will be spent visiting my friends and family in South Australia, which is my yearly tradition. The plan is to take advantage of being so close to beautiful beaches along the coast and my personal favourite wine region of Maclaren Vale (hopefully with my phone turned off for most of the time).

My holiday reading list includes All I Ever Wanted Was to Be Hot by Lucinda Price, and Middlesex by Jeffrey Eugenides.

Stephen McGarry, Director

I’m looking forward to going back to Ireland with my family for a (hopefully) white Christmas. I’m excited to venture to mainland Europe for a city break in Paris and Copenhagen.

Jordan Healey, Receptionist

This year will be a local but creative one! I’ve been yearning for a bit of time to continue producing music, which is a passion of mine. So, I reckon much of my time will be spent in ‘musical isolation’. But of course, there’s always time for my partner and our dog, Kuma. We’ve got a voucher for a stay at one of the Unyoked tiny homes – perhaps we’ll lock a trip away together.

Lucy Cuthbertson, Practice Manager

I’m looking forward to slowing down, reading a few books that have been gathering dust, and spending some time in the garden.

Juan Hernandez Flores, Senior Interior Designer

This holiday season, I’m looking forward to spending quality time with my mum, who will be visiting from Mexico. We’ll enjoy cooking together, sharing some of our favourite recipes and reconnecting over home-cooked meals. I also plan to catch up with friends over dinners and gatherings, which is always a highlight of this time of year. If all goes to plan, I hope to spend a few days at the beach – one of my favourite places to relax and recharge. It’s shaping up to be a perfect mix of family, friends and a little seaside of serenity!
