Today, the Carr team share their plans for the summer break. From day trips to reading plans, design-related activities, or outdoor fun, let’s find out what people have in store!
Candice Bradley, Associate Director
Lots of travelling is on the cards for me with a mix of activities. First off, I will go to the Gold Coast and check out all the theme parks with the kids. Later, I will head to Tasmania and spend a whole day at the Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) and indulge in all the art.
Courtney Siesmaa, Graduate Interior Designer
It’s been on my bucket list for ages to visit Point Leo Estate Sculptural Park on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula and what better time to go than to see Yayoi Kusama’s Pumpkin piece? Will also pop into some nearby wineries for a glass or two!
Mark Graus, Senior Architect
This year, instead of making the trip back home to Perth, I’ll be doing the drive from Melbourne to Adelaide and spending the week over Christmas at the beach near Mclaren Vale. Delicious wine, fresh food, and a crystal blue beach – what more could you ask for?
Angela Park, Architectural Graduate
For the few days I’m in Melbourne, I will check out Tadao Ando’s new MPavilion structure. Enjoy a potluck Friendmas, give some Asian authors some love, see local musical talent, and head to Sydney to check out the Sydney Modern Project in the morning (when it has the best light apparently!).
Kirby Humphries, Interior Designer
I like to step away from the art and design world for the break, so I return in the new year feeling refreshed and motivated to jump back into it for another year. With this in mind, I’ll be spending Christmas with family in Melbourne then road-tripping to Picnic Beach on the south coast of NSW for camping with some mates over New Year.
Viya Zhang, Architectural Graduate
I’m staying in Melbourne this Christmas and will be working on the tiny garden on my balcony. I’m excited to see how it grows!
Sarah Barrett, Graduate Interior Designer
I’ll be heading off to Canada with the family and will be attending an Architectural tour at the Victorian (BC, Canada) State Parliament. Looking forward to some family time and sightseeing.
Madeleine Edwards, Architectural Graduate
I’ll be heading to Perth these holidays to spend time with family who live there, soak up the sun and refresh for a new year. Back in Melbourne, I’m planning to visit the new Triennial exhibition at the NGV, enjoy a session at the Moonlight Cinema in the Royal Botanical Gardens and head out of the CBD for some hikes and SUPing.
Catherine Keys, Associate
Having recently moved homes, I’m excited to truly settle in, hang some artwork and build our new shed. Along with home improvement and gardening projects, the agenda also includes a good chunk of time relaxing and enjoying barbecuing for friends and family. I will also definitely plan some trips to the coast and hunt down some waves to surf!
Chris McCue, Managing Director
Once Boxing Day hits, I escape to the Bellarine Peninsula and bunker down for three weeks. My daily aspirations amount to not a whole lot more than walking on the beach with my dog, swimming in the surf and showering off the salt water. There’s a fantastic pastry shop and seafood providore not far from the house in Point Lonsdale, which will be part of my daily routine. I’ll also revisit MPavilion 10 by Tadao Ando and rediscover my passion for playing around with wire sculptures. In summary, I plan to decompress, swim and feel the sand between my toes. If I achieve all of this, I’ll consider it an accomplishment and a valuable slowdown in gearing up for another busy year.
Charlotte Huston, Communications and Media Coordinator
I will be heading back home to Perth for the holidays. Whenever I’m not at Cottesloe Beach, exploring the Art Gallery of Western Australia is at the top of my to-do list. There are so many free exhibitions from emerging and established artists to check out. It will also be cool to see Nic Brunsdon’s work in the lobby and foyer.
