On Friday 29 November, the design industry gathered at the Forum Melbourne to celebrate the winners and highly commended projects of IDEA. Among those recognised was Aesop Australian Headquarters in the Workplace Over 1000 sqm category, a restrained and graceful workplace and laboratory by Carr for the renowned Australian skincare brand.

This award category in particular recognises large commercial office designs that enhance the efficiency of the workplace, not just from the perspective of user productivity, but also with regards to comfort and happiness. Jury considerations include brief, concept, projection of company brand and ethos, support of workplace culture, where applicable client ease of use, spatial acumen, parameters, decoration, lighting, sustainability, innovation and originality of design outcome.

Of our winning project, the IDEA jury member Melissa Bright shared:

“Understated and refined, the new Aesop Australian headquarters reflects its brand identity. The level of execution is a testament of Carr’s approach to design – minimalistic yet rich in its own way.”

Marking Carr’s first collaboration with Aesop, the new headquarters represents a new chapter for the company following recent global growth. Moving towards an increasingly international approach, with offices in London and Paris, Aesop appointed Carr to craft interiors that facilitate a collegiate and sophisticated workplace while evoking a lasting impression that embodied the brand.

This recognition marks the third consecutive year where Carr has received an award from the IDEA program, the previous two being 835 High Street, and Heyington in the Residential Multi category for 2023 and 2022 respectively.

The annual Interior Design Excellence Award (IDEA) program is run by the Australian Design Review and celebrates the best of Australian interior and product design.
