The Collingwood office building “is the sum of its sustainable parts, achieved economically while wearing its heart on its sleeve.”
The Carr-designed 116 Rokeby is a sharp-featured, climatically adapted child of the COVID-19 era, with its inspiration, gestation and realisation mapping neatly onto the last five years. The building is complete and now taking in tenants, and the lucky new occupants have a unique multi-level building to move into on this quiet street in the heart of Collingwood.
The Rokeby Street project is notable in several respects, all of which probably fly under the radar to the lay observer. It is no less significant for it: the building has achieved a Platinum rating in the WELL energy and wellbeing rating system, reflecting a quality baked into the fabric of the project. Stephen McGarry of Carr emphatically states that there are no “tacked-on” sustainability features in the building.
