The 2024 INDE. Award shortlist has been released, and Carr Architectural Graduate Rebecca Mallaby has been unveiled as a finalist in The Graduate category.
The Graduate award recognises and celebrates a final-year architecture student who shows outstanding promise in their chosen course. Through innovation and creativity, the student aspires to make a mark on the profession and break new ground through design.
A graduate of Monash University, Rebecca’s shortlisted submission Aileen Avenue Precinct offers a multi-residential affordable housing alternative for lone or pair occupants. Each block experiments with different modes of sharing between direct neighbours. Firstly, two adjacent apartments share a spare room, an undefined adaptable space such as a guest room, office, or art studio. The second share a kitchen, while allowing for private living and dining. The final test shares all communal facilities with equal private amenity. Community is expressed from a micro to macro level, vertically in each block through communal rooftop areas, and precinct-wide including spaces such as a co-working area.
Winners will be announced on Thursday 1 August 2024. Congratulations and good luck Rebecca!
